Her reading comprehension and word solving are improving.
She reads more for meaning now.
Next we want to improve her reading levels even further,
and motivate her to produce even longer stories, which she can start to edit.

IMG_3610.JPG
I am learning to use lots of new Maths apps on the ipad to help with counting and adding
lots of numbers.
I like playing alphabet bingo with the class. I have won lots of times cause
I know my alphabet and can do it fast.
I like writing stories and can do my goal.
I can write 6 sentences now.
I am going to learn to spell more words and write more sentences.
I read my story to the class and to Matua Crouch.(Whiore)
I have added more complex apps for Maths on the ipads for the children to use .
Whiore especially likes the Addimal app and is learning to add numbers quickly.
She can also count to over 100 and add numbers to 20. She likes spelling words on the alphabet grid
and is quick at finding the letters when we play alphabet bingo.
I am going to encourage Whiore to spell more words independently and from her spelling lists.
(Mrs Bennett)

Skipping (Jump Rope For Heart)
IMG_3558.JPG
I am learning to skip. I could only skip 8 times.
Now I can skip 20 times in the same place.
I am going to learn to jump backwards properly next
and skip up to 50 times. (Whiore).
The school is involved in a Jump Rope for Heart programme.
Most of Room 2 could not skip. All but one can skip forwards now.
The tamariki are now learning to jump backwards and do skill jumping
such as ski jump and bell jump.
Most children can run around the court skipping.
One boy who could not skip has gone from no skips to 30 on the spot
in just 2 weeks. The programme is for 6 weeks.
On June 13th 2014 we will have a Jump Rope for Heart skipping activity afternoon
for the children and whanau.
Children are setting goals to achieve that afternoon.
The emphasis is on participation and fun. ( Mrs Bennett)

Constable Phil is teaching us to walk safely.
We are learning to cross the road safely.
We know where to stand and know parts of the road such as the kerb and the gutter.

Duffy Role Model Assembly

IMG_3445.JPGIMG_3460.JPG
We had Diana Queenin as our Duffy Role Model. She talked about Dinosaurs
and showed us fossils. She also told us how important it is to read to help our learning.
The children loved the Duffy books that they chose.

ipads
IMG_3463.JPG
I built a school with Anahera on the ipad. It shows where we learn things.
I had to match the colours and the shapes and patterns too.(Whiore)
As part of our Geometry unit in Maths the children had to build either a school
or a house in pairs. They had to use attributes such as shapes, pattern, direction, size and colour.
The children worked well together and enjoyed the activity. ( Mrs Bennett)

Prizegiving

I am making up a story on the ipad.
I like making all the different people and recording me talking.
I can write lots of words too.( Whiore)
I showed the children how to use the Tellagami app on the ipad.
The children can make a variety of characters and change them accordingly.
They can write words or record their voice.
I circulate and assist if needed to support or help.
Many of the children are quite independent in this app now.
They tend to prefer to record rather than write words and love making lots of different characters.
(Mrs Bennett)

Storywriting/ Masks

IMG_3300.JPG

Whiore
I am a pirate.
I live on a ship.
Whiore selected the mask on the ipad that she wanted to have a photo with.
She wrote about it and we published her caption
and put the pictures on the classroom wall.
The objective was to stimulate the children's imaginations.
I encouraged Whiore to think about pirates and where they would live.
She also wrote a story in her story-writing book
(Mrs Bennett)

Storywriting
IMG_3340.JPG

I wrote a story about my mask.
I spelt lots of the words myself. I can use the dictionary too.
Mrs Bennett helped me sound out 'ship'.( Whiore)
I encouraged Whiore to spell most of her own words.
She is building up a good basic word knowledge from her reading and spelling.
She got pirate and mask from the wall where her picture and caption was
and got scary from the dictionary with my assistance.
When the children have written their stories they read them to me and I highlight in "gold for great"
words that they have attempted well or spelt or located for themselves. (Mrs Bennett)

Hakinakina Swimming Sports
IMG_3315.JPG

We went to the Hakinakinka swimming at the Aquatics.
There were lots of other schools there.
I was good in the races. (Whiore)
We all had a great afternoon at the Hakinakina Cluster swimming sports.
We were there with TKK, Mangateretere and Omahu.
We had fun races like blowing the little ball across the pool with a straw.
We also had flutter-board and swimming races.
The children loved the free swim in the bigger pool.
They were all awesome and all enjoyed themselves. ( Mrs Bennett)

Having a house to live in is important. ( Whiore)
The children all enjoyed the Life Education Trust visit with Whaea Anne.
We studied VIP ( Very Important Person), which we talk about in class
as we have a VIP each week.
We also learnt about healthy food and the important things that we must do to keep our bodies healthy.

I took daily swimming lessons with the children and taught them water confidence.
All children could get in and put their head under.
Some could sit on the bottom. Most can now kick with a flutter-board.
All can blow bubbles and kick at the side of the pool.
It has been rewarding to see how much the class has increased in water confidnce and skills.
I have assessed the children according to the Swim Safe evaluation sheet. ( Mrs Bennett

She is now confident in the water and will give any new skills a try.
Together we plan to increase her swimming skills. ( Mrs Bennett)

Bike Track
IMG_3001.JPGIMG_3109.JPG

I can ride a bike on the track and the skills track.
I can't go on the PUMP track yet.
My goal is to do that.( Whiore)
I give Whiore lots of opportunities to practise her skills.
She will ride around the outside of the track but
she needs lots of encouragement and is reluctant
to try the hills on the PUMP track. She lacks confidence at that.
I will keep encouraging her to try and praise her efforts.
As it is one of her 2014 goals
I am sure she will achieve it, as she wants to( Mrs Bennett)

He made Mrs Bennett disappear and then come back again but she was really just behind the screen.
She jumped out and gave us a surprise.
I laughed at Ronald McDonald and Mrs Bennett.

I then showed her what length to cut the wool.
I showed her where to tie it.
She could cut the wool and the bag but not tie it successfully onto the bag
and so I helped her. Whiore was using her thinking and problem solving skills
as well as developing her hand eye co-ordination skills.

Writing Sample

IMG_1765.JPG

I went to Sk8zone. I wrote a story about it. ( Whiore).
I supported Whiore writing a story.
She can record part of one simple sentence and isolated words from around the room.
She also tries to write words with letter attempts.
Next steps are to help Whiore write sentences with the words she chooses
as well as help her write her own words to talk about her experiences.
Orally she could say about how she went down the ramps on a scooter.
She also , when questioned, said that she went fast( Mrs Bennett)

I reinforced her by praising her attempts and guided her with next steps on how to use the app. ( Mrs Bennett)

Turangawaewae

I talked about Turangawaewae on the video and that it means our place to stand ( Whiore)
Whiore was able to talk about what we did in Inquiry but was unsure about the 'where to next.'
She has only been at school less than 2 weeks so was not involved in the Inquiry over a term.
I thought she did very well to have the understanding that she had gained in such a short time.( Mrs Bennett)

The Bike Track

IMG_1322.JPG

I can ride a bike now on the track. ( Whiore)
I supported Whiore in giving her the confidence to ride a bike.
She still feels safe with trainer wheels so I have not made her feel uncomfortable
and will wait until she is ready to try riding a bike without the trainer wheels. ( Mrs Bennett)
